Style Coalition Announces Winners of the 3rd Annual Fashion 2.0 Awards
NEW YORK – February 9, 2012 – Over 450 industry notables from both the fashion and tech sector, including social media powerhouses from DKNY (the night’s big winner), Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs and Bergdorf Goodman, filled NYC’s SVA Theatre last night for the 3rd Annual Fashion 2.0 Awards presented by Style Coalition. The event was also watched by thousands via livestream.
Hailed by many in attendance as “one of the most important nights in fashion”, the Fashion 2.0 Awards are the first industry-recognized distinction honoring the most innovative fashion brands for their outstanding achievements and communication strategies across a variety of digital media channels. Nominees were chosen by an online community of industry influencers and fashion fans; winners were voted on by the public.
The Awards were presented by Style Coalition bloggers, who shared personal anecdotes relating to each category prior to announcing the winners. In between the honors, host Robert Verdi regaled the audience with tales of his youth “raised by salespeople from his local NJ mall”, tossed sunglasses from his new HSN line into the audience, and waxed poetic about nutritional advice dispensed by his good friend and Keynote Speaker Norma Kamali. Kamali, who by all accounts delivered the speech of the night, spoke about her fascination with technology that began in the early sixties as an airline employee. Her inspirational words captivated the audience and sent the Twittersphere into overdrive. The first Fashion 2.0 Visionary Award was presented to Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, Co-Founder of Gilt Groupe, who accepted the award on behalf of her partner Alexis Maybank who could not attend.

“The breadth of this year’s nominees and winners shows the importance fashion brands have placed on the medium,” said Style Coalition Founder and CEO Yuli Ziv. “It’s so exciting and gratifying for the brands that their fans voted and recognized their efforts in connecting with them via various social channels. The Awards capture the spirit of social media and the ceremony brought together all of the talented people who are driving the innovation.”
