Background

Online media expert and entrepreneur Yuli Ziv founded Style Coalition (SC) in September 2008, after identifying a need in the fashion blogging community for an organization to help bloggers monetize their blog properties and turn their hobby into a business.

As one of the first bloggers to cover New York Fashion Week, Ziv realized we all shared similar goals and challenges - how to create revenue streams and turn this into a full-fledged career, as well as, how to define and cement our place in the industry. "I recognized that it would be much more attractive to potential advertisers if we approached them as a group of publishers, a diverse combination of bloggers," explained Ziv. "It would create more opportunities and most importantly measurable, REAL results."

Style Coalition was created to act as the liaison between brands and social media outlets and to help bloggers sell any monetary aspect of their blog, from display media to custom content.

Style Coalition

Today, Style Coalition is an exclusive blogger network representing top beauty and fashion blogs that is unmatched in the marketplace. With a proven track record of well executed, successful initiatives, engagement and positive response, SC is one of the only professional networks that provide measurable and trackable custom blogger campaigns.

In 2010, Ziv facilitated a partnership with ELLE magazine, making Style Coalition the first online publishing network to join forces with a traditional media entity.

“The ability to offer brands multi-channel social media solutions (i.e. display advertising, sponsored content, video campaigns, events, etc.) backed by an established media company seamlessly merges the worlds of traditional and non-traditional advertising, resulting in a double-digit percentage increase in reach and exposure,” explained Ziv.

Through its partnership with ELLE, Style Coalition has created custom programs and/or advertising campaigns for brands including: Microsoft, jcpenney (and its various sub-brands), Lancôme, D&G, Gap and Maybelline.

In 2011, after a very successful first year with ELLE, the Style Coalition partnership expanded to include the entire Hearst Digital Media network.

Style Coalition Members

Style Coalition focuses on “quality not quantity” when building its network of top “influencers”, who are defined by Ziv as having “proved success through traffic, engagement and created a significant community of followers while maintaining a professional, authentic image and unique voice.”

The SC membership process is highly selective and candidates are often found through referrals/personal connections.

“We have strict standards and a tough filter. We’re looking for someone with business savvy and ethics; their blog has great content, a good defined/target audience, steadily increasing audience size/level of engagement/influence score, a clearly defined niche and is ultimately one an advertiser will want to work with,” explained Ziv.

Ziv’s goal is first and foremost to maximize each blogger’s revenue, but equally as important is her role as mentor.

“The services we provide our members go beyond monetization, we really get to know the person behind the blog and help them develop all aspects of their business. The bloggers who recognize themselves as entrepreneurs are the ones who will have career longevity.”
